Melrose, also known as Akin’s Junction or simply as Junction. At times was conceived to include the areas of Grant’s Hollow and/or Bryan’s Corners.

Obituary.

Humphrey D. Akin, a well-known and respected resident of Pittstown, died yesterday. The deceased had always been a resident of Pittstown, and had considerable property in that place. Akin’s Junction [Melrose, the junction of New York Route 40 and County Road 117] was named in his honor. He was seventy-five years of age, and he leaves four daughters.
