Veteran Mason Headed Old Village at Time It Was Annexed to Troy.
George E. Skillman, last President of the village of Lansingburgh, died last evening at his home, 638 Third Avenue, Lansingburgh, after a short illness. Born in Lansingburgh 87 years ago, Mr. Skillman had always resided in that section.
Mr. Skillman served two terms as President, and was elected first in March, 1896. He was reelected in March, 1898, and served until December 31, 1900, at which time the village became a part of the city of Troy.
Widely known in Masonic circles, Mr. Skillman was a veteran member of Phoenix Lodge, F. and A. M., and Phoenix Chapter, R. A. M., having been affiliated with both bodies for more than 50 years. He was a member of St. Mark’s Methodist Church.
For some time Mr. SKillman was a member of the firm of Bolton & Skillman, cracker manufacturers. Later that concern sold out to the National Biscuit Co. He had also been a member of the Fake Hook and Ladder Company.
Survivors include a son, former Supervisor Edward B. Skillman, and a granddaughter, Miss Claribel B. Skillman. The funeral will take place from the residence tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
