FOR LIFE SAVING.

Equipping Life Saving Stations Along the River—The Locations.

N. L. Weatherby, commodore of the state volunteer life saving corps in this district, will begin to-morrow the equipment of the life saving stations, which are being established in the river, from the Waterford bridge to Pleasure island. There will be nineteen stations, as follows: 1. Riverside club house; 2. O’Hara’s ferry, at the Troy water works pumping station; 3. Sharp’s boat livery at the foot of Thirteenth street, Lansingburgh; 4. ferry above Casino rink; 5. Troy yacht club house; 6. near the house formerly occupied by the Earl boat club, between Second and Third streets, Lansingburgh; Laureate club house; 8. Cooley’s ferry at Douw street; 9. foot of Jay street; 10. Broadway ferry; 11. Adams street ferry; 12. opposite Riverside club house; 13. Waterford battery; 14. Cohoes young men’s Christian association athletic grounds at the Cohoes bridge; 15. Empire State club house, Green Island; 16. between the state dam and Centre island; 17. Centre island; 18. Troy and West Troy ferry at Sixteenth street, West Troy; 19. Pleasure island.
Each station will be supplied with a lag bearing the inscription “Volunteer Life Saving Station,” a rubber ring buoy and also a mettalic buoy, the latter having the strength to buoy up five men. The Cooley, Broadway and Ferry street ferries will fly the flags of the corps and will be the stations at their respective points.
A corps of five men will be appointed for each station, one of the members of each detachment to have the rank of a first lieutenant in command of the station, and for every four stations there will be a captain appointed. It is proposed to have the rubber and metallic buoys, in most instances, placed along the shores, where any one can use them in case a person falls into the river. The members of the station squads are selected mostly from men frequently in the localities of the station.
